Astonishing antique assuit dress !! Red cotton underdress with black assuit layer on top. Metallic neckline, with an amazing black velvet and bright red silk yoke. Puffed red satin sleeves with metalli gold cord woven on top and metallic tassels hanging down. Skirt side slits w black feather trim and gold tassels at the tops. The assuit layer of the skit features a jagged hemline, with metallic gold fringe dangling from the underdress below. Snap closures down center back, though a few need replacing. Condition is overall good for its age and type. Completely handmade, I believe this may have been worn on stage. There appears to have once been another layer- red silk underdress layer beneath the assuit but atop the cotton layer that shattered. Remnants of the silk layer remain but not noticeable/visible. This piece is sold as is and shows wear including some scattered small holes in the assuit, a few mends, large breaks in the metallic neckline , some darkening on the sleeves from the metal cording, a few other spots of discoloration, and a large hole in the assuit at back hem of skirt. Assuit missing at underarms and a hole at one underarm and general wear to both. A rare and special piece for a collector, or would be wearable with some care. Delicate.
